Rebel leaders held after poll

Police arrested opposition militants in the Ivory Coast as party leaders declared yesterday that they would contest the result of the country’s first multi-party election, writes Mark Huband in Abidjan.

Amid accusations of ballot-rigging by the ruling Democratic Party (PDCI), leaders of the opposition Ivorian Popular Front said that they had instructed party lawyers to contest Sunday’s landslide victory in the Supreme Court.
