Iran is holding several important members of the al-Qaeda terrorist network, as well as minor figures in the organisation, the country’s intelligence minister said yesterday.

The ISNA student’s news agency quoted the minister, Ali Yunesi, as saying: “Since the collapse of the Taliban regime we have arrested a large number of al-Qaeda members. Many have been sent back to their countries of origin, many have been expelled from the country, and many of them are in our custody – a mixture of big and small members.”
